PD Event 2 – Grow and Glow

Event Wrap Up

The room was buzzing at our second Young Tourism Network professional development event for the year.

Students and young professionals gathered to hear from three insightful speakers. And it was all about growing and glowing in your career development.

Peter Davey, Head of HR at Visit Victoria, discussed ways to perfect your CV and cover letter. His passion for leadership and team management shone through. He also provided some background on Visit Victoria and the great opportunites they have to advocate for the visitor economy and dispersal of tourists across the state.

Alicia Alizzi, Head of Sales at Sand Hill Road, provided an insight into job interviews – including which important questions to prepare for and what an employer is looking for. Her experience in a fast paced workplace and expertise in hiring new team members, helped demonstrate the importance of that first impression.

George Joveski, Managing Director of Bunyip Tours, shared his story of delving into the tourism industry by chance, and discovering some great opportunities to take his career to the next level. He highlighted how transferable skills can be used to get you anywhere if you have the passion and confidence to stand out from the crowd.

After hearing from each, there were three break out sessions which allowed attendees to be with each speaker in a smaller group where some deeper thoughts were divulged and further questions and ideas uncovered.
