What is the Trusted Advisor Program?
The Young Tourism Network Trusted Advisor Program is aimed at fostering collaboration, learning and development between Young Tourism Network members.
Student and young professional members are invited to participate, with young professional members advising students. The program will run from May to October 2017, with applications being taken throughout April 2017. The program will begin with an initial meet and greet event, followed by training for advisors. Advisors will also receive follow up training during the program. Advisors and advisees are expected to meet in their own time throughout the duration of the program to share knowledge and experiences.

Meet and Greet | TBA, 6pm to 7pm, Mr Hive Kitchen & Bar, Crown Metropol, 8 Whiteman Street, Southbank
Participating young professionals and students come together for a meet and greet and drinks and nibbles with all participants of the Trusted Advisor Program.
Advisor Training #1 | TBA, 7pm to 8.30pm, Crown College, 8 Haig Street, Southbank
This will be the first training session for advisors, providing them with the tools to share their knowledge and experience with their advisee. This training will be provided by Mel Neil from Mind Insurance.
Advisor Training #2 | Wednesday 16 August, 6pm to 8pm, Crown College, 8 Haig Street, Southbank
The second training session for advisors will focus on what is working well, and areas requiring development. This training will be provided by Mel Neil from Mind Insurance and followed by drinks and nibbles at Mr Hive Kitchen & Bar.
YTN Christmas Party | TBA
Participants of the program will be formally recognised at Young Tourism Network’s 2017 Christmas Party.
Meeting with your advisor/advisee
It is expected you will meet with your advisor/advisee at least twice throughout the program duration (May to October). It is up to the participants and at their own cost to organise these meetings.

- Applicants must currently be studying or working in Tourism, Events or Hospitality or a related field
- Applicants must agree to meet at least twice at a mutually agreed venue and time during the program (six month duration)
- Advisees must be available to attend the meet and greet event on Wednesday 3 May 2017 from 6pm to 7pm
- Advisors must be available to undertake a meet and greet on Wednesday 3 May 2017 from 6pm to 7pm and two training sessions on Wednesday 3 May 2017 from 7pm to 8.30pm and Wednesday August 16 2017 from 6pm to 7.30pm.

Mel Neil- Mind Insurance
Mel Neil is an Australian positive psychology practitioner and consultant. She designs and delivers custom emotional intelligence and strengths based leadership and performance programs for public and private sector clients.
As a credentialed trainer in leading emotional intelligence and positive psychology assessment instruments, Mel also provides certified training, course facilitation and coaching.
Mel’s innovative programs are recognised by peak bodies both domestically and internationally. She co-designed the first Australian Government accredited Diploma of Positive Psychology which is now delivered in the United Kingdom, Canada and New Zealand. She also co-designed and continues to facilitate the Award Winning Melbourne Tourism Leadership Program (MTLP).
The uniting theme of Mel’s work is her desire to empower and facilitate the success of individuals and communities. This objective drives the astute application of her positive psychology research, knowledge and skills to teach both leaders and teams how to increase personal, business and collective wellbeing.
You will be required to complete an application form outlining skills and areas of which you are knowledgeable. We will aim to match you with an advisee who is seeking to develop these areas.

Only current financial members of the Young Tourism Network are able to participate. Students may be from any University, TAFE or Institute, however must be studying tourism, events, hospitality or a related field (e.g. marketing, business). Students may be at any stage of their study from first year to final year. Advisors must be working in tourism, events or hospitality or a related field.
The program will begin in May and successful applicants will be informed during April.
Successful applicants will find out who they are matched with when notified they have been selected for the program.
